Autism & special-needs advocacy

Good information nobody could use.

Parents of newly diagnosed children face a wall of dense, clinical, intimidating material at the exact moment they have the least bandwidth to absorb it. The information exists, it just isn’t usable.

Ben & Bo Advocacy, named for my two sons, both on the spectrum, needed a brand that felt like a knowledgeable friend, not a pamphlet: approachable, hopeful, and clear enough to act on at 2 a.m.

How it came together

From listening, to concept, to a system that scales across every channel a family might find.

Listen & research

Started from lived experience and parent conversations, mapping the questions families ask first, and the language that felt safe versus clinical.

Concept & identity

Built a warm, rounded identity and a puzzle-piece mark that reads as connection, not deficit. Chose a palette and type system that stays calm under stress.

Build & apply

Extended it into an illustration library, social templates, printable guides, and event branding, so every touchpoint feels like the same trusted voice.

Warmth on purpose

The puzzle-piece mark is drawn to read as connection, pieces coming together, not a missing piece. Rounded forms, a soft palette, and a hand-drawn illustration style keep the brand calm and human: deliberately the opposite of the clinical materials families kept bouncing off.

Every element was chosen to lower the emotional temperature of a hard subject, so a parent reads it and feels supported, not diagnosed.

One warm, consistent system.

A brand and content library that meets families where they are, on Instagram, in a printed guide, or at a community event.

Why the choices mattered

For advocacy work, the win is clarity and trust, and every design decision was made to earn both.

Made it approachable

Warm illustration and plain language lowered the barrier for families who’d bounced off clinical resources.

Improved readability

Clear hierarchy and iconography turned dense guidance into something scannable in a hard moment.

Built consistency

One system across social, print, and events made a small advocacy effort feel established and trustworthy.

This is the work I’m proudest of, proof that thoughtful design can make an overwhelming season feel a little more navigable.
